Before opening the first Coates Hearing Clinic location in Smithfield, Dr. Coates worked alongside a world-renowned neurotologist in Raleigh. She gained years of experience in all aspects of audiology, such as cochlear implants, osseointegrated hearing implants, hearing aids, balance assessment, tinnitus treatment, and facial nerve monitoring during hearing nerve tumor removal surgery in the operating room. This position gave her practical experience in many different areas of the field.
As the clinical lead for Coates Hearing Clinic, Dr. Coates oversees all treatment protocols, ensuring that the highest standards of care are consistently met. She is also responsible for developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for audiology assistants, advancing patient education initiatives, and strategically guiding the growth of the business. Her visionary leadership and dedication to innovative, patient-centered care continue to inspire the next generation of audiologists.
Community involvement is important to Dr. Coates. She started the Smithfield Running Club in 2017 and was on the board of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation. She is also a member of the Johnston Network on Aging, the Triangle East Chamber of Commerce, and the NCCARE360. Additionally, Dr. Coates is an ambassador for the Dementia Alliance of NC and is on a medical advisory board for Johnston Community College. She also provides free educational seminars for local groups and senior centers through the Community and Senior Services of Johnston County and is a member of First Baptist Church in Smithfield.
Jordan Coates, MBA
Jordan manages the business, marketing and insurance operations of Coates Hearing Clinic. He was born and raised in Smithfield, NC, where the first Coates Hearing Clinic location opened in 2019. After graduating high school in 2003, he left for Chapel Hill to go to college at UNC (Go Heels!) where he received his bachelor’s degree in communication studies. He received his MBA from Strayer University in 2021.
Jordan worked with the Deacon Jones Auto Group in Smithfield and Goldsboro, NC for 9 years before transitioning to managing the clinic full time. The experience in the automotive industry (with a large, family-owned dealership) was an excellent training ground for learning how a successful business works. This experience gave him hands-on experience with managing finances of a large business and taught him about the importance of controlling costs while driving in revenue. This is also where the mantra of “whatever it takes to help the patient” comes from. Just like auto dealers get creative when it comes to putting car deal together, Coates Hearing clinic gives its providers the leeway to make creative decisions to help patients who have hearing loss
In 2017, Jordan was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease. Though the severity of the disease comes and goes, it has given him a new understanding of the difficulties of living with hearing loss and vertigo. With both Jordan and Dr. Coates having experienced hearing loss, their mission of enabling patients to hear is personal.
