Practice

The Smithfield office of Coates Hearing Clinic saw its first patients in January of 2019. To both Dr. Coates and Jordan’s surprise, the clinic was profitable in that first month. As the months went along, it became clear that there was a real need for quality audiologic care in that part of North Carolina.

At the heart of Coates Hearing Clinic’s success is a steadfast commitment to a “patient-first” culture. Dr. Coates’s genuine empathy and dedication to patient care set a new standard for audiological care. Patients consistently praise the clinic for its thorough examinations, comfortable and upscale office environment and transparent approach to pricing—without any high-pressure sales tactics. This focus on ethical, patient-centered care has built a loyal and growing patient base and consistent revenue.

Even in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Coates Hearing Clinic continued to thrive. By November 2020, a second audiologist was added to the Smithfield team, followed by a third in September 2022 to meet the growing demand. The success of the Smithfield location paved the way for the opening of a second clinic in Goldsboro, NC, in June 2023. Within just two months, the Goldsboro clinic was fully booked six weeks in advance, prompting the hiring of an additional audiology assistant to support patient care.

The Goldsboro, NC location was opened in June of 2023. Within 2 months, this location’s schedule was booked out 6 weeks for new patients. This location has grown quickly, necessitating the hiring of another audiology assistant to help carry the patient load.

Coates Hearing Clinic stands out as one of the first practices in North Carolina to license audiology assistants, maximizing efficiency while maintaining exceptional care standards. This strategic use of practice extenders allows audiologists to focus on revenue-generating appointments such as new patient evaluations and hearing aid fittings.

The incredible growth of both locations is due to several factors. The biggest reason for growth is the clinic’s commitment to putting patient needs above all else. Interviews for open positions seek out more than just knowledge and clinical skill. The clinic only hires employees who have shown that they are kind and patient with a heart for the audiology field. Patients can tell that our providers are recommending what’s medically necessary, not just trying to push a product, and that they are sympathetic to the patient’s situation and objections. Patients often associate medical practices with cold, sterile environments that feel impersonal and unwelcoming.  Coates Hearing Clinic has invested in making their clinic locations comfortable and up-scale. The staff is trained (and expected) to provide “outrageous customer service” while doing whatever is necessary to take care of patients. The goal is to create an experience, not just a visit to the doctor’s office.
